‘We’ve loved these guys for a little while now’
Abbie McCarthy – BBC Introducing
Hailing from the Garden of England, Tez are soulful ambient indie quartet skillfully blending indie rock allure, infectious melodies, and soulful, introspective lyrics into a captivating tapestry of sound. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Foals, Ben Howard, and Palace,
Since their inception in March 2023, the quartet’s soulful ambience, anthemic riffing, and deep, evocative vocals have not only caught the attention of BBC Introducing but have also marked key milestones in their meteoric rise. With numerous broadcasts, a Wonderland Magazine premiere, headlining Switzerland’s prestigious Festival Tiefental, and signing a Sync deal with Plutonic Music Group, the group are force to be reckoned with.
In celebration of their debut single as a collective, “Feels Like Winning,” the Kentish quartet made waves with their first headline, self-promoted show at the award-winning Ramsgate Music Hall.
Tez’s journey took a transformative turn in early September 2023 when they collaborated with Ian Flynn (known for his work with Yussef Dayes and Hozier) at London’s prestigious Unwound Studios. This collaboration, fueled parcially by a successful crowdfunding campaign that saw their dedicated fan base contribute a remarkable £1664, as well as support from Help Musicians, a charity they are honored to be collaborating with, playing a pivotal role in making the second half of the EP possible.
‘Feels Like Winning,’ the intro to Tez’s new sound, is set to release early November, heralding The New Era for the quartet. The highly anticipated debut EP will unfold track by track throughout 2024, accompanied by an extensive UK/EU Tour.
The roots of Tez trace back to a bedroom project by multi-instrumentalist turned frontman, Owen Mellett. Following studies in music technology and fueled by a love for jazz, rock, and ambient music, Owen’s self-released EP, ‘Mind Waves,’ marked the inception of a musical journey that surpassed the confines of the bedroom. Tez’s evolution into a formidable unit, with the addition of schoolmates Joe Martin, Oscar Saunders, and Dan Hughes, showcases a strength forged through collaboration, improvisation, and diverse influences.
Proudly supported by Help Musicians, Tez has garnered acclaim from Wonderland and BBC Music Introducing, with Abbie McCarthy expressing her anticipation for more from the band. As Tez continues to weave their sonic magic, audiences can expect a thrilling blend of soulful and ambient indie brilliance that resonates far beyond the confines of their origins.
